Passing Along Some Wisdom

Two items to put in your memory bank, especially if they apply.  They were shared on this website and I thought I would pass them along.

1. F.O.M.O. - many of us outdoor enthusiasts suffer from this.  Next time a powder day comes your way, ask yourself, "do I have a Fear Of Missing Out"?  If so, you definitely are experiencing F.O.M.O.

2. GNAR - Shane McConkey was one incredibly crazy individual.  He with some of his friends created a movement that changed the way we look at skiing . . . less serious, more fun.  I'm not one to go out and do a run BN but maybe I'll try the "call your mom while skiing a sick line".  You can check the most amazing movie here. **DISCLAIMER: THERE IS SOME LANGUAGE AND BUMS . . . JUST ANOTHER DAY AT SQUAW.

And then there was rain.....

I headed up today to see how the snow was looking and it was raining at 8000 ft.  Not cool. I ditched the sled and decided to do some old fashioned skinning. The light was horrible, the snow was wet and sometimes had a nice rain freeze layer on it, and the wind was blowing a million miles a hour.... but it was still better then skiing at a resort. If anyone is reading this and wants to experience some of the best skiing in the world accessed by sleds let me know!

This picture doesn't do it justice, the road up to my favorite spot is dirt and hangs on the side of some very steep mountains. This is the view off the side of the road down a 800 foot drop. Awesome.

Are you ready yet?

Not a Bad Day to Lose & Find a Ski

The day started out stressful, to say the least.

Brett dropped into a bowl, hit a "little" cliff, and landed in a way that he lost one of his skis.  Keep in mind that he telemarks, so his skis don't have breaks when they cut lose.  Another great moment in an already stressful day.

The group got to probing the snow, but to no avail.  We were ready to call it and come back in the spring to find it when the snow was gone.  As we were about to head out, one of our group members noticed a faint ski track; just one.  It pointed straight down the hill.  We strapped in and started to follow this phantom track into the trees.  As I was approaching a small roll over, I realized we were getting close to a cliff band that was mandatory air . . . . mandatory BIG air.  My eyes followed the track and to my surprise his ski was sticking straight out of the snow, not 25 feet away from going over the cliff.
Lucky.  Very lucky.

After that found ski, redemption followed.  The snow was great, the company was better, and the best part of it all . . . we didn't have to compete with anyone to get these tracks:
